ActivTrak is employee monitoring software running on the Windows platform. This piece of software can also be used to monitor the way student use computers in school, and that’s why the principal introduced ActivTrak as a mandatory monitoring in details what my students are doing when using the computers in the IT lab. So I installed ActivTrak, and its intuitive interface made it easy for me. I discovered that this is a powerful monitoring tool, as it tracked application use in real time, giving me all the necessary information about my students operations: caption, description, executable, url etc. Beyond this very specific information, ActivTrak allowed multiple user sessions, thus enabling me to keep an eye on every student in my lab and to avoid their accessing infected web pages or those with explicit, adult content. The one thing I liked the most about ActivTrak is the possibility of setting alarms that would notify me if any of my students accesses unwanted web content. This way I have the opportunity of continuing my tasks without looking at the computer screen all the time and still have my students under strict control. On the other way, I can also record the idle time on their computers, apart from the screensaver, as to see who’s doing his work and who’s just pretending to be working. All in all, I found ActivTrak very useful, secure and valuable software to have in any school.
